Water was leaking from behind the Sub-Zero refrigerator, and the ice maker had stopped working. Those symptoms can occur when the water supply to the ice maker does not stop at the right time. Water may enter the ice maker, freeze there, and interfere with its normal operation. A water supply fault can also lead to leaks around the refrigerator, so the valve and ice maker need to be checked together.

What We Did

Our technician diagnosed the refrigerator and found that the water inlet valve was not closing fully. Water continued flowing into the ice maker, where it froze and blocked the water's path, causing water to spill behind the refrigerator. We replaced the valve, then thawed and serviced the ice maker and water line. The valve controls water flow to the ice maker, so replacing a valve that does not shut off helps prevent excess water from entering. We tested the ice maker after the repair, and it operated properly with no leaks found.
