Maytag belongs to Whirlpool Corporation, and current Maytag washers, dryers, refrigerators and dishwashers are built on Whirlpool platforms with Maytag's own cycles, trim and some heavier-duty components. That shared engineering keeps most Maytag parts in good supply and the failure patterns well known.
Older Maytag machines still turn up. Neptune front loaders, from the brand's first front-load years, remain in some laundry rooms, and many of their parts are discontinued, which decides whether a repair is possible. Bravos and Centennial top loaders and Maxima front loaders make up most Maytag laundry calls.
What breaks in Maytag washers
- Bravos roar and bang. Bravos top loaders wear out tub bearings, which roar in spin, and suspension rods, which let the tub bang the cabinet. Rods are a quick repair; bearings are a larger job inside the tub.
- Centennial clicks but will not agitate or spin. On Centennial and Bravos models the shift actuator moves the drive between modes, and when it fails the washer stalls. Newer Maytag top loaders use a shifter and post F7E5.
- Lid lock (F5E2). The lock assembly wears and stops the cycle.
- Maxima front loaders. F9E1 drain faults from a clogged pump filter, torn door boots and failing door locks.

What breaks in Maytag dryers
- No heat on gas models. Bravos and Centennial gas dryers share the Whirlpool valve and igniter; weak valve coils let the igniter glow without lighting.
- No heat on electric models. An open element, high limit or thermal cut-off. A tripped cut-off sends us to the vent run, because restricted exhaust caused it.
- Noise. Drum support rollers, the idler pulley, the belt and the front glides.
- Steam models not misting. The water valve and nozzle on Maytag steam dryers scale up and clog.
- Will not start. Thermal fuse, door switch or drive motor.
What breaks in Maytag refrigerators
- Ice compartment frost. On Maytag French-door models the ice maker sits in an insulated compartment on the fresh-food side, cooled by air from the freezer. A worn compartment seal lets frost build and freezes the bin into a block.
- Fresh-food side warm. The adaptive defrost board, defrost heater or bimetal fails and the evaporator frosts over.
- Compressor clicking. The start relay or the compressor itself; we test before condemning either.
- Sealed system. Leak repair, compressor replacement and recharge, done in place.

What breaks in Maytag dishwashers
- Poor cleaning. A clogged filter lowers wash pressure, which shows first on heavy PowerBlast loads. We clean the filter, then check the wash motor and diverter.
- Not draining. The drain pump or its check valve.
- Door falls open. Hinge cables and springs break on Maytag dishwashers; we replace both sides together.
- Not starting. The door latch switch, the touchpad or the control board in the door.
- Wet dishes. The heating element or its high limit.
- Leaking at the door. A worn tub gasket or a loose door seal strip.

What breaks in Maytag ranges and wall ovens
- Gas oven slow to light. A weak glow-bar igniter cannot open the safety valve.
- Power Burner clicking nonstop. The high-output burner on Maytag gas ranges shares one spark module with the other burners, so moisture in a single switch after a boil-over keeps every igniter sparking.
- F3E0 or F3E1. The oven sensor or its harness.
- Double-oven ranges. Two cavities, two sensors and separate relays, so we test each oven circuit on its own.
- Locked after self-clean. The door lock motor or switch.

What breaks in Maytag microwaves
- No heat. A failed magnetron, diode or capacitor; the capacitor is discharged before anything is measured.
- Stops mid-cycle. Steam rising from the range wears the door switches and latch on Maytag over-the-range models.
- Sensor cooking off. A coated or failing humidity sensor stops cycles early or late.
- Vent fan or light out. The fan motor, a relay on the board or the LED module.
- Turntable stopped. The turntable motor under the cavity floor.

Parts and warranty on Maytag repairs
We install only Maytag OEM parts. Most current Maytag parts are shared with Whirlpool and arrive within a few business days, including lid locks, actuators, shifters, bearing kits and pumps. Neptune-era and other discontinued Maytag parts are increasingly hard to find, and some are no longer made. If your Maytag is under the manufacturer's warranty, contact Maytag first, since that coverage is handled by the manufacturer. Labor on our repairs is covered for 90 days.
Maytag codes we see most often
These are the display codes that bring us the most Maytag calls. The wording is ours, and the meaning can shift between model years, so treat the table as a starting point: a technician confirms the cause with tests before any part is replaced.
| Code | Appliance | What it usually points to |
|---|---|---|
| F1E1 | Washer | Main control board fault; power and connections are checked first |
| F5E2 | Washer | Lid or door lock failed to engage at cycle start |
| F7E1 | Washer | Board cannot detect drum motor speed; motor or wiring |
| F7E5 | Washer | Shifter fault on newer top loaders; drive stuck in one mode |
| F8E1 | Washer | Slow or no fill; low water pressure or inlet valve |
| F9E1 | Washer | Slow drain; clogged pump filter, kinked hose or failed pump |
| F0E2 | Washer | Oversudsing on a front loader; reduce or change the detergent |
| F3E0 | Oven & range | Oven temperature sensor circuit open; sensor or harness |
