Amana is Whirlpool Corporation's value line: simplified Whirlpool designs with fewer features, basic controls and the same core parts. An Amana top-load washer uses the same drive system as many Whirlpool and Maytag top loaders, and Amana dryers use Whirlpool's long-running dryer layout.
That simplicity keeps most Amana repairs straightforward. We mostly replace wear parts: washer actuators and lid locks, dryer belts, rollers and thermal fuses, refrigerator defrost components and range bake elements. Parts are widely available, so repair or replace comes down to the condition of the whole machine, not parts supply.
What breaks in Amana refrigerators
- Freezer cold, fridge warm. The defrost heater, thermostat or control fails, frost blocks the evaporator and air stops reaching the fresh food side. We melt the frost and test each defrost part.
- Clicking, compressor not running. On top-freezer models, a failed start relay or overload.
- Squealing from the freezer. An evaporator fan motor with dry bearings, or ice touching its blade.
- Water under the crisper drawers. A frozen defrost drain.
When the refrigerator is worth it, we also do sealed-system work: leak repair, compressor replacement and recharge.

What breaks in Amana washers
- Washes but will not spin, or the reverse. On current top loaders, the shifter actuator that moves the drive between wash and spin fails; it is replaced as a unit.
- Stops with the lid locked, or will not start. The lid lock or lid switch assembly, which also breaks when the lid is forced.
- Banging in spin. Worn suspension rods let the tub hit the cabinet.
- Slow fill or not draining. Clogged inlet valve screens or a failed drain pump.
- Older direct-drive models. When the motor runs but the washer neither agitates nor spins, the plastic motor coupling between motor and gearcase has usually broken.

What breaks in Amana dryers
- Motor runs, drum does not turn. A broken drive belt. We check the idler pulley too, since a seized pulley quickly breaks a new belt.
- Thumping or squealing. Worn rear drum rollers and a dry idler, replaced together.
- No heat. On electric models, the element, high limit or thermal cut-off; on gas, the igniter, valve coils or thermal fuse. A tripped cut-off or fuse points to restricted airflow, so we check the exhaust path first.
- Will not start, electric. The thermal fuse on the blower housing is in the motor circuit, so a blown fuse stops the whole dryer.
- Long dry times. A failing cycling thermostat or a crushed exhaust hose.
What breaks in Amana dishwashers
- Dirty dishes and gritty film. Many Amana dishwashers use a filter you remove and rinse by hand; when it clogs, wash pressure drops. If rinsing does not help, we test the wash motor.
- Water in the bottom after the cycle. A blocked drain hose or a failing drain pump.
- No lights, will not start. The door latch switch or the control board.
- Dishes still wet. The heating element or its high-limit thermostat.
- Leaks at the door. A worn gasket or a tub that is not level.

What breaks in Amana ranges
Amana ranges stick to coil, smooth-top and basic gas designs, so a fault usually traces to one part.
- Oven will not heat. On electric models, a burned-out bake element, often with a visible blister. On gas models, a weak glow-bar igniter that glows but no longer opens the gas valve.
- Coil burner dead or stuck on high. A burned receptacle or a failed infinite switch.
- Temperature off. The oven sensor or the clock control.
- Surface burners clicking. A wet switch or a failing spark module.

What breaks in Amana microwaves
- Runs, no heat. The magnetron, high-voltage diode or capacitor. The capacitor holds a dangerous charge, so we discharge it before testing.
- Completely dead. A blown main fuse, usually caused by a failed door interlock switch; both are replaced together.
- Turntable not turning. The turntable motor or coupler.
- Fan or light out on an over-the-range model. Amana over-the-range microwaves include a hood fan and light, and their motor, switches or bulbs fail independently of the cooking side.

Parts and warranty on Amana repairs
We install OEM Amana parts only. Because Amana is built on Whirlpool Corporation platforms, most of its parts, from washer actuators and lid locks to dryer belts, rollers and defrost heaters, are shared with Whirlpool and Maytag and usually arrive within days. Some older control boards and cosmetic parts are discontinued, which we check before quoting. If your Amana is still under the manufacturer's warranty, contact Amana first. Our repairs carry a 90-day labor warranty.
Amana codes we see most often
These are the display codes that bring us the most Amana calls. The wording is ours, and the meaning can shift between model years, so treat the table as a starting point: a technician confirms the cause with tests before any part is replaced.
| Code | Appliance | What it usually points to |
|---|---|---|
| LF | Washer | Washer is taking too long to fill; check supply valves and inlet screens |
| F5E2 | Washer | Lid lock cannot engage; something in the way or a failed lock |
| F7E5 | Washer | Shifter actuator is not moving the drive between agitate and spin |
| Sud | Washer | Too many suds detected, usually too much or non-HE detergent |
| L2 | Dryer | Low or missing line voltage, so the heater may not start |
| AF | Dryer | Restricted airflow; lint screen or exhaust path is blocked |
| F9E1 | Dishwasher | Water not draining in time; filter, drain hose or pump |
