Thermador is built around the professional-style kitchen: pro ranges and rangetops with the five-point star burner, wall ovens that pair convection with steam, induction cooktops, and Freedom column refrigerators hidden behind custom panels. Gas ignition generates most service calls, because every star burner depends on a spark electrode, a burner switch and a shared spark module, and none of them tolerate boilovers well.
Thermador belongs to BSH, the same company as Bosch, so Thermador dishwashers run on the Bosch platform and many oven controls overlap. Column refrigerators are the most involved work, since the panels must come off cleanly and the compressor sits in a tight machine compartment.
What breaks in Thermador ranges and ovens
- Star burner will not light or clicks nonstop. A cracked electrode, a wet burner switch or a failing spark module. One bad switch can make every burner click, so each switch is tested before the module is condemned.
- Gas oven slow to heat. The hot surface igniter weakens and no longer opens the oven valve in time.
- Wall oven faults E101, E106, E115. Temperature sensor and door latch failures on Masterpiece and Professional ovens.
- Steam oven not steaming. Scale in the steam generator, a weak water pump or a failed tank sensor; regular descaling prevents most of it.
- Convection fan noise from worn motor bearings.

What breaks in Thermador cooktops and rangetops
- Ignition faults. The same star burner hardware as the ranges: electrodes, burner switches and the spark module under the top. Boilovers that reach the switches are the usual trigger.
- ExtraLow simmer not holding. ExtraLow cycles the flame on and off through a valve and control; when that fails, the burner stays at full low or goes out.
- Induction cooktop dead zones. Power boards and the cooling fan fail, and a blocked fan cooks the board, so we check both.
- Griddle not heating on rangetops, from a failed element or thermostat.

What breaks in Thermador refrigerators
- Freedom column warming up. The compressor or the electronics that drive it fail, or the condenser is packed with dust. The board and compressor are tested separately, since the repairs are very different.
- Sealed-system work. A failed compressor or a leaking evaporator on a column means compressor replacement or leak repair, brazing, evacuation and recharge.
- Ice maker stops. Freezer column ice makers fail at the module or the water valve.
- Doors sagging or not sealing. Heavy custom panels pull on the hinges over time.

What breaks in Thermador dishwashers
- Drain and leak codes. Thermador dishwashers share the Bosch platform, so E24 and E25 point to a blocked drain path and E15 to water in the base pan.
- Heat pump failure (E09). The circulation pump carries the heater; when the heater opens, the pump is replaced as one part.
- Door falls open. Heavy custom panels on panel-ready Sapphire and Star Sapphire models overload the hinge springs, which need a kit matched to the panel weight.
- Dark control. Relays on the power module fail and the machine will not start.

What breaks in Thermador microwaves
- Microwave drawer stuck. The motorized drawer stalls on a worn gear rack, a failed drive motor or a position switch. Realigning the drawer in its opening and replacing the drive part fixes it.
- No heat. Magnetron, high-voltage diode and capacitor are tested in turn.
- Speed oven heats but will not brown. Built-in speed ovens add a convection element and fan, so that symptom points to the convection circuit.
- Dead after a pop. Door switches fail and blow the fuse.

What breaks in Thermador range hoods
- Weak or noisy blower. Pro wall hoods and custom inserts move a lot of air, so blower bearings and capacitors wear; remote and inline blowers fail the same way.
- Controls dead. Switch boards behind the front panel absorb heat from the pro range below.
- Fan starts on its own or never. Some Thermador hoods start the blower automatically when a heat sensor trips; a failed sensor runs it constantly or not at all.
- Lights out on halogen or LED modules.

Parts and warranty on Thermador repairs
We use OEM Thermador parts only. Igniters, spark modules, burner switches, sensors and dishwasher pumps come through the same BSH supply as Bosch and are usually available without a long wait. Column refrigerator compressors, steam oven assemblies and induction power boards can take longer to source. If your Thermador is still under the manufacturer's warranty, the repair belongs with Thermador, since we do not take warranty jobs. Completed repairs carry our 90-day labor warranty.
Thermador codes we see most often
These are the display codes that bring us the most Thermador calls. The wording is ours, and the meaning can shift between model years, so treat the table as a starting point: a technician confirms the cause with tests before any part is replaced.
| Code | Appliance | What it usually points to |
|---|---|---|
| E15 | Dishwasher | Water detected in the base pan; leak protection stopped the cycle |
| E24 | Dishwasher | Drain path restricted; kinked hose or blocked disposal connection |
| E25 | Dishwasher | Drain pump blocked by debris under the pump cover |
| E09 | Dishwasher | Heater in the circulation pump has an open circuit |
| E011 | Oven & range | A touch key is stuck or was held too long |
| E101 | Oven & range | Upper oven temperature sensor circuit is open |
| E106 | Oven & range | Upper oven door latch did not lock |
| E115 | Oven & range | Upper oven too hot while the door latch is unlocked |
